Affiliated to The Rugby Football Union, The Middlesex County Rugby Football Union and the London Society of Rugby Referees.  Associated with the Essex County Rugby Football Union.

Eric Glenn Chapman

Son of James & Margaret Chapman of “Shirley”, High Road, Whetstone London.  Chapman was a native of Crouch End.

Lance Corporal, A.Coy. 1/14th(County of London) Bn (London Scottish).

Died 1st November 1914, age 22.

The London Scottish were the first Territorial battalion to go into action in France, engaged in the Battles of Messines and Ypres in October and November 1914.  Chapman was to die in that action, being the first Upper Clapton player to fall.

He is buried with a 1,000 other Commonwealth servicemen in Wytschaete Military Cementery, W.Flanders - III.B.45.
