Bernard Bayspoole

Captain.

6th Bn, Prince of Wales Volunteers (South Lancashire Regiment). 38th Brigade, 13th (Western ) Division.

The 13th Division was formed formed between late August 1914 and February 1915. The 6th Bn South Lancs were formed at Warrington.

On the 6th July 1915 the Division landed at Gallipoli, where it took part in various operations until the withdrawal in January 1916.  It then moved to Mesopotamia(Iraq) at end of January 1916 as part of the relief force attempting to relieve the Garrison at Kut.

Bayspoole was killed in action on Sunday 9th April 1916.

He is commemorated on the Basra Memorial (Iraq) which contains the names of 40,500 members of Commonwealth forces who died in Mesoptamia between 1914-1921 who have no known grave.  Bay 23.
