PRESS RELEASE 2/10/07
Epping (Upper Clapton) Rugby Club (EUCRFC) have joined with the West Essex School Sports Partnership (SSP) to host the “Annual Tag Rugby Festival” at Upland Rd Thornwood Common, Epping on 12th October starting at 1pm.
The event follows the successful linking of both sporting organisations to encourage the playing and enjoyment of Rugby in the West Essex area as well as celebrating the Rugby World Cup.
Schools from across the school sports partnership are being encouraged to enter teams of both boys and girls from years 5 and 6 to compete for the EUCRC trophy and shield.
To promote fair play and sportsmanship teams will also have the opportunity to be awarded the “Rugby Spirit Trophy” which will be presented to the team best typifying the sporting ethos of rugby.
This event will not only provide opportunities for players but also young officials and volunteers from St Johns School, Epping.
Presentation of all the awards will be made by Blackheath Captain and ex England U21 Owen Coyne at 4pm. Owen began his playing career in the EUCRFC youth sections before going on to play professionally for several leading clubs and is finishing his career playing for EUC. Representatives from Essex Rugby will also be on hand to support the event.
