Did You Know?

Upper Clapton player, W B Sherwell scored two tries for the Barbarians in their 33-0 win over Stade Francais in a game played at Blackheath on 15 February 1899. See the proof here.

Also, 100 seasons ago, UCFC was preparing for its 28th season with plans for a trial game then an opening fixture on 5 October against London Hospital at Elm Farm, Walthamstow.  Captain for that season was Dr H J Brewer and at the end of the season H W Lovelock was presented with an “afternoon tea set and case of cutlery” for his services to the Club.  Lovelock was later to be killed in The Great War.
